Katy Perry shares her emotional experience with Planned Parenthood when she was just a teenager.

Throughout the the 2015/16 US Election Campaign, it is probably safe to say Katy Perry was Hillary Clinton‘s loudest celebrity supporter.

She held concerts endorsing the Democratic nominee, proudly sported her “Nasty Woman” cap and even dressed as Clinton for Halloween.

Following her election defeat, it is safe to say the singer has been incredibly devastated, with rumours she cancelled one of her concerts as a result.

Although her candidate lost, the victory of Donald Trump has also ignited fears across America that Planned Parenthood will be shut down.

During the campaign, Trump said he was going to “permanently defund” the organisation and even threatened to legally punish women who have abortions.

In response, the 32-year-old sing has revealed her touching experience she had with Planned Parenthood, from when she was still a teenager.

“I had little to no information on [sexual education] because of my sheltered upbringing,” she wrote on Instagram. “I had no idea how things worked down there, and had no idea how to make a plan for them.

“Planned Parenthood educated me on my body and my reproductive health, so that I could focus on my dreams and using my voice until I knew the timing was right for me to make a plan to have a family. Since then, I have been able to focus wholeheartedly on bringing messages of strength and becoming a voice for others. Without this education, I may have had a different life path.

“Since then, I have been able to focus wholeheartedly on bringing messages of strength and becoming a voice for others. Without this education, I may have had a different life path.

“I came from a lower- to middle-class family and never grew up with the option of health insurance. I remember having 13 cavities as a teenager, and the best option my parents could come up with was to try and take me to Mexico because we couldn’t afford anything in California.”

Perry then went on to publically donate $10,000 to the organisation to ensure that women continue to have a safe haven to learn about their bodies and protect them.

“I hope I can help inspire you to make a gift as well, and become a member and an ally.”
