Katie Holmes isn't just appearing at New York Fashion Week: She's taking centre stage. As she continues to move past her from Tom Cruise, Holmes will be debuting her new Holmes & Yang fashion collection on Sept. 9 at "the tents": the main designer showplace at Lincoln Center.
"This is a big deal for Katie to show in the tents, under the full attention of the fashion editors and the glare of the media scrutiny," an insider told the New York Post.
Co-designed by her stylist Jeanne Yang (pictured), Holmes' high-end fashion line was launched in 2008 and is currently sold at Barneys. The sleek, sophisticated styles have plenty of fans, but they've never been showcased at New York Fashion Week — until now.
"They could have done a small show elsewhere, so this proves she and Jeanne are very serious about their business," says the Post's source.
As People points out, Holmes is set to show on the same day as Victoria Beckham — her former BFF. However, the celebrity designers' shows are likely to be in different places and times, so they'll probably avoid an awkward run-in.
The Holmes & Yang show is just one of the new endeavors Katie has undertaken since leaving Tom and moving to New York City with daughter Suri. She'll also be starring in a Broadway play, Dead Accounts, this fall, and is the new face of luxury jewelry firm H. Stern. Her divorce from Cruise, her husband of five years, was finalized on Monday.
