Betty Lou Motes passed away in the early hours of Thursday 19 February. According to In Touch magazine, she was at St John’s Health Centre in California when she passed.
It has been reported that she was battling lung cancer.
It's already a tough time of year for the actress and her family, as 9 February marked one year since Julia's half-sister, Nancy Motes took her own life.
Nancy, 37 died of a drug overdose in February 2014, and with her passing left a suicide note that blamed Julia and other family members for her actions.
Betty has reportedly been living with Julia since the death of Nancy. They've been living in Julia's LA home with her husband and three children.
