Jess Mauboy disappears seconds before she was supposed to sing the National Anthem at Melbourne Cup.

Where were you, Jess?

Jessica Mauboy was supposed to sing the national anthem before the Melbourne Cup yesterday.

But just 30 seconds before she was meant to go on stage, organisers were scrambling to find a replacement after Mauboy reportedly pulled out.

Luckily Mauboy’s back up singer Nadia Aya took the stage instead with only 30 seconds to warm up.

Mauboy’s representatives reportedly offered a vague explanation that “clothing and preparation” was the reason she disappeared, adding that the 26-year-old singer was “incredibly sorry,” according to The Australian.

According to Daily Telegraph, “This morning, radio 2GB king of talkback Alan Jones suggested Mauboy refused to wear shoes supplied by the official race sponsor Myer.”

Victoria Racing Club CEO Simon Love said: “We were very disappointed that Jessica Mauboy was on course and didn’t perform today. We were grateful that Nadia Aya could perform the national anthem ahead of the Emirates Melbourne Cup”.

Whatever the reason for her sudden exit, we’re sure there is a legitimate explanation. Jessica Mauboy is known to be a reliable professional at what she does and we hope that everything is okay.
