We finally know what Jennifer Garner was thinking during her viral Oscars moment. Sort of.

Actress Jennifer Garner has responded to becoming a viral internet sensation in the best possible fashion.

Sending out some explanations as to why her face did what it did during this week’s Academy Awards, the 45-year-old infused yet more humour into an already hilarious situation.

First, some context:

After every worthwhile awards show, there is guaranteed to be a meme that goes viral. Of course, this year’s Oscars was no exception.

We had Meryl Streep recreating her own hollering meme from the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards with the exact same pose. Just like Inception… but with Meryl Streep instead of Leonardo DiCaprio.

We had friendship goals with Jennifer Lawrence poking fun at Emma Stone.

But the most notable meme to come out of the 90th Academy Awards was that from Garner, whose bewildered expression mid-clap was oh, so relatable.

It reminds you of a time when you’ve really, really been enjoying yourself only to realise, you’ve left the oven on. Or you’ve forgotten it’s your mother’s birthday. Or you’ve been reminded of the specialist appointment with a months-long waiting list that you were meant to leave for almost an hour ago.

Behold, the internet:

And what did Garner, mother-of-three and 13 Going on 30 star, do when she learnt she’d become an internet sensation?

She doubled down like a boss, of course.

On Instagram Stories, Garner shared three possible thoughts that were going through her head when her face changed like it did.

First: Congrats to ‘Shape of Water’. Maybe I should date a fish?

Fair call. Garner and her ex-husband Ben Affleck separated in 2015 after 10 years of marriage. And, anyone who’s watched Shape of Water will tell you, a relationship as powerful as the one between Elisa and her humanoid amphibian seems pretty ideal, fish scales or not.

From Charlize Theron in Monster to Nicole Kidman in The Hours, why do women have to ‘go ugly’ to win an Oscar? Post continues after audio.

Second: Hey Jimmy Kimmel, what’s in your wallet… Wait, where is my wallet?

This is in reference to the advertisements Garner appears in for a US bank, Capital One. And, while it might not mean much to Australians, everyone, surely, can relate to the utter panic that comes from misplacing a wallet or handbag.

Her final option, however, is most genius of them all.

Garner took the opportunity to promote her upcoming HBO special with Girls creators, Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner. The limited series, called Camping, will start filming in the Northern Spring in Los Angeles, and Garner has some called-for concerns.

Can’t wait to work with Lena Dunham… Wait, did I sign a nudity waiver?

And just like that, Garner continues her reign as Queen of the Internet (for the meantime, at least).
