The Iraqi men's fashion group using their powers for good.

A group of Iraqi men are using their fame as fashionistas to raise awareness for local women and women’s groups.

The ‘Mr Erbil’ gentleman’s club have launched a series of social media campaigns that aim to change perceptions that exist around Iraqi culture.

Images of the men in pristine suits have caused the group to amass huge followings on social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.

Although the accounts may appear to be restricted to promoting aesthetics, the group have also been using their status to promote women’s rights.

The Mr Erbil Instagram account profiles one woman every Thursday as a way to share her story and celebrate her strength.

Co-founder Ahmed Nauzed told news.com.au their political effforts were to offset the ongoing domestic distress of their home country.

“It is a harsh time we are facing and we wanted to overcome it with positive thinking and social changes,” he said.

“We decided to come up with something that grabs people’s attention, something they can relate to … otherwise people wouldn’t care or listen.”

The men have also been able to weave aspects of their own culture into their mimicry of Western style in order to maintain some cultural identity.

A clothing line is said to be in the works and potentially launching as early as later this year.

The video playing above offers a look into one of their recent style campaigns.
