One in a million! Mum gives birth to identical triplets

Meet the babies who have defied the odds, just by being conceived.

These adorable babies are the Hepner triplets. These gorgeous IDENTICAL girls were born without the assistance of IVF. Just so you realise how amazing their birth actually is, we should point out that your chances of having identical triplet babies naturally is one in two hundred million.

“Identical triplets are anywhere from one-in-a-million and one-in-a hundred million,” Dr. William M. Gilbert, medical director of Sutter Women’s Services and founder of Moms of Multiples Center told the Sacramento Bee. “It is so rare that it is hard to calculate how frequently they occur.”

Identical triplets are conceived with a single fertilised egg that spontaneously splits into three eggs to produce three idential babies.

Parents Hannah and Tom are delighted by their daughters who were born on November 22 at Suttor Memorial Hospital. They have named them Abby, Brin and Laurel.

The babies were born weighing a total of 11 pounds or 4.9 kilos so will remain in special care for most of this week before being allowed to go home to Plumas County in the US. At birth, Abby weighed 3 pounds 2 ounces or 1.4 kilos, Brin was 3 pounds 11 ounces or 1.6 kilos and Laurel was the largest of all three at 4 pounds or 1.8 kilos. The reason they are different weights is because they all had different amounts of the placenta connected to them.

Mum Hannah who is 29 years old said, “We understand that they are going to be individuals. We look forward to finding out who those are and helping them along the way.” Father Tom is more concerned at how he'll handle three teenage daughters at once.

Now, how to tell them apart...
