Iceland got so, erm, 'excited' about winning a soccer game there's been a baby boom.

Here at Mamamia, we’re pretty darn excited about sport. But not as much as Iceland are, apparently.

You see, the home of 300,000 people is experiencing an increase of their population with a welcome baby boom…

Exactly nine months after Iceland’s soccer team secured a 2-1 victory in the Euro 2016 world cup against the British.

According to The Independentlocal newspapers are reporting March has smashed national records for total births in a month.

Curious indeed.

Beating the English at anything has always been a good confidence booster for Europeans. But one-upping them at their national pastime, football (it’s soccer guys) has proven to be an extremely powerful aphrodisiac for the Icelanders.

But with pleasure can also come pain, that is, the pain numbed by a record-breaking number of epidurals administered to expectant mothers in Icelandic hospitals.

So c'mon, Socceroos. It appears a sport game can be more than just a sport game after all.
