8 ways to get kids more active.

Australian children are among the laziest in the world. Here are 8 ways to get yours off their bums.

Australian children are among the least active in the world, ranking only behind those in Britain and New Zealand. How is this possible? We’re a sports-mad country, we have beautiful weather, our children are lucky enough to have access to a great range of sporting activities, you can’t drive 200 metres without passing a park, however, statistically, they are a generation of couch potatoes.

The global study shows that more than 80 percent of Australian children aged between five and 17 failed to get the recommended 60 minutes of moderate physical activity each day. This is despite the fact that most play an organised sport.

“We do rank quite highly on organised sport participation and we are a sporting nation as we like to say,” Natasha Schranz, a researcher from the University of South Australia, told AFP. “But this has clearly shown that it’s not enough because we still rank poorly for overall physical activity levels.”
