Father planned to kill Luke Batty
The beginning of a police investigation into the horrific death of schoolboy Luke Batty last night has indicated that 54-year-old Greg had planned to kill his son and then commit ‘suicide by cop.’ Eleven-year-old Luke was bashed over the head with a cricket bat and then stabbed repeatedly by his father, who had reportedly just been bowling balls to his son after junior cricket practice. Police suspect he waited until his son was separated from adults before he attacked. Greg, who died after being shot in the chest by police, had a history of violence and was under an intervention order to stay away from the family home and only see his son at the oval on which he died.
Man kills shark, fined $18,000
A man who intentionally killed a great white shark by luring it to his boat, running over it with his onboard motor and then beating it to death with a pole has been fined over $18,000. Witnesses reported that 40-year-old Justin Clark herded the shark into shallow water in Sussex Inlet in the South of Sydney in January 2012 before killing it. He was convicted of harming a threatened species.
Australia's sexual assault rates soar above world average
It's been revealed that one in every six Australian women are sexually assaulted by a non-partner, twice the rate for women worldwide. On in 14 women worldwide are thought to have been sexually assaulted. Australia has ranked third as a result of the new research, just under the Congo and Southern African nations such as South African, Zimbabwe and Namibia. One in five Australian women are said to be sexually assaulted by their partners.
Banned dog mauls baby to death
An 11-month-old baby girl in the UK has died after being mauled to death by her families' American pit bull terrier, supposedly named 'Killer.' Ava Jayne Marie Corlsee was attacked by the banned dog as she slept in her house in England. Her mother Chloe King (20) and boyfriend Lee Wright (26) have been arrested on the suspicion of child neglect and manslaughter.
