Helen's parenting nightmare: 'I was asked to leave my child's playgroup after 20 minutes.'

A lot of things are remarkable about UK television presenter Helen Skelton.

She is a journalist. A qualified tap dance teacher. In 2009, she completed the 126 kilometre Namibian Ultra Marathon. She was the second woman ever to do so.

The following year, she kayaked the entire Amazon River for charity. She covered a total of 3,230 kilometres from Nauta in Peru to Almeirim in Brazil. It took her eight days and she did it solo.

There have been documentaries about her – one covering her walk along a 15 meter tightrope, 66 meters above the ground, between chimneys at the famous Battersea Power Station on the River Thames.

She holds two Guinness World Records.

She is also a mother. And, like any other mother, there are times when she can’t get her one-and-a-half year old son Ernie to stop screaming.

Skelton and her husband, football player Richie Myler, moved from England to France where, yesterday, she had to take Ernie to daycare.

The morning started off relatively well… just a little nerve-wracking.

She posted a picture of her little one to Instagram, with the caption: “French play group …. let’s do this …. why do I feel sick ….. #nervousparent #family #mum #toddler #childcare #school #family”

Then, not half an hour later, she followed it with this…

“Worst day of my parenting life. Asked to leave after 20 mins. Screamed the place down screaming his version of ‘mama let’s go!’ Constantly.”

Skelton’s post has gone viral. Some people have criticised the daycare, others have questioned her parenting. But, mostly, the response has been overwhelmingly supportive.

Fellow parents nodding in understanding, laughing-almost-crying about this tricky stage of parenthood. Some are even lamenting the days where daycare was the biggest problem.

“Definitely not a “parent fail”, just normal parenting and you are not alone! You are an amazing mum,” one commenter wrote.

“Been there, but embrace every clingy day which you have. They grow up so very quickly. Mine are teenagers now. A whole different ball game….. big love. P.S. You’re doing a mighty fine job,” another comment reads.

“Not just me that has those days then. Hope all is well despite mummy struggles,” one woman shared.

Clearly, Skelton didn’t expect the post to attract so much attention.

She tweeted that the incident has blown up to be a “storm in a teacup” after news stations around the world, including Mail Online picked it up.

It might be a storm in a teacup, but it’s one many mothers can relate to – Guinness World Records or not.
