A Hawthorn AFL player is being investigated over alleged sexual assault.

Trigger warning: This post deals with sexual assault.

An AFL player is being investigated over alleged sexual assault.

The Hawthorn star, who has not yet been named, allegedly raped a woman in the early hours of October 9 in Melbourne, Fairfax Media reports.

The alleged incident allegedly took place in Melbourne on October 9.

According to Channel Seven, a 19-year-old woman reported the crime to police.

The Box Hill woman said she was raped in the back of a taxi and then at a property in the Melbourne suburb of Ashwood, after meeting the AFL players at a bar last Friday — just a few days after their grand final win.

The Box Hill woman said she was raped in the back of a taxi and then at an Ashwood property.

It has been elsewhere reported that two Hawthorn players, one who played in the grand final and one who did not, were being investigated.

But the football club says Victoria Police is investigating a single footballer, who is not a premiership player.

“The player involved will continue to assist police with their enquiries,” it said in a statement on Friday night.

“No further comment will be made until the investigation is concluded.”
