Gwyneth Paltrow: I only let my children watch TV in French or Spanish

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin seem like two people who take themselves pretty seriously. He writes all those soulful Coldplay ballads; she stars in films like Contagion and cooks elaborate organic meals for fun. But as it turns out, the secret to their successful marriage is that they have fun together.

"We laugh a lot, and at the same jokes," says Paltrow in the October issue of InStyle. "We like the same music and we like to do the same things."

The actress and cookbook author, who turns 40 this month, says that focusing on enjoyment has been great for her relationship — and her life. The famously healthy star recalls the time when she followed a strict macrobiotic diet, then "got pregnant and just ate ice cream."

"What I’ve learned is I want to enjoy my life, and food is a big part of it," she explains. "I love to cook and feed people. I cook every day.”

Paltrow revealed she also only allows her kids to watch television in French or Spanish instead of their native English, she said eight-year-old Apple was “cross” as “I only let them watch TV in French or Spanish”.

She added: “When I'm in France, I go to [Boulevard] Beaumarchais and buy all their cartoons.”

And could the star be thinking about a third child?

Even with the challenges, it's possible that Paltrow and Martin will be expanding their family. Though daughter Apple is 8 and son Moses is 6, Paltrow says that a third child is not out of the question.

"My brain says, 'Oh, I think I'm done, the kids are so big now, and I don't want to go back to changing diapers,'" Paltrow tells the magazine. "But a part of me would love to have another. Of course, I'm old now!"

Other interview highlights include:

On her love of food:
"I work out so I can eat what I want; I adore food and have loved cooking for the past 20 years. My favorite foods are savoury and if I allowed myself an treat, it would be fried food, or a baguette with smelly French cheese and wine, followed by a confit of duck and French fries."

On her skin secrets:
"Genetics play a part, but sweating it out every day is detoxing. I also drink a lot of water, take Omega oils and keep my word regime simple – a cleanser, face oils and Embryolisse moisturiser."

On her favourite perfume:
"Boss Nuit Pour Femme is my new signature scent. In New York, I have all my fragrances out, but in London, they're behind a little glass door on shelves. It's like a sweet shop!"

On her beauty icons:
"Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy always looked gorgeous and whenever I see Cate Blanchett on a red carpet, I think she looks amazing."
