This is what designers in 1930s thought we'd be wearing. And they were bang on.

Designers from the 1930s predicted the future of fashion with incredible accuracy – without even realising it.

Film shot by by British Pathe in 1939 shows some designs based on outlandish suggestions: women in skirtless suits (shocking!!), headlamps as headdresses to help find the perfect man (Yes. Really.) and wedding dresses made of glass (we’re not entirely sure how that would work).

But apart from those novelties, 70 years later their predictions are essentially bang on.

Take a look (it’s GREAT footage):

Predictions of transparent dresses, jumpsuits and lots of beards were right. But they got even more specific.

Take the cantilever heel shown in the film:

Seen these lately? Fashion guru-slash-singer Lady Gaga has a version by Alexander McQueen that she wore to the 2013 Grammy's:

And as for dresses to catch the fellas? The 1939 designers predicted this:

And on the red carpet WHEN there's Lupita Nyong'o at the 2014 Oscars:

They were also big on transparent frocks - something that now shows up everywhere:

Oscar winning actress Jennifer Lawrence wore a transparent Dior dress to the premiere of her film The Hunger Games in 2014:

Singer Rihanna on the CFDA’s (Council of Fashion Designers of America) red carpet last year:

And as for those disappearing skirts ...

Jumpsuits have definitely made an impact on the world of fashion.Take Amal Clooney at her wedding last year:

And Robin Wright at the Oscars this year:

We take exception to only one prediction: the headlamp in the hair.

That's just plain weird:

Can you believe how many of these ideas they got correct? What would you have predicted?

Like this? Why not try...
