Update: Police searching for 25-year-old man in connection with the murder of French student Sophie Collombet

Investigators in Queensland have released the name of a man they want to speak to. 25-year-old Benjamin James Milward is known to police and is wanted for questioning. Members of the public are warned not to approach him.

“We don’t know what his involvement in the matter is at this stage but he is a person that we wish to speak to,” Detective Inspector Rod Kemp said.

Mr Milward is about 180cm tall, Caucasian, with short light hair, hazel eues and a dragon tattoo on the left side of his chest. He is known to frequent the Kurilpa Park area and was spotted on CCTV in the park on the night of Ms Collombet’s death.

He is the only person of interest police have named in relation to the case but he has not been declared a suspect at this point in time.

Update: Anti-Islamic extremist targeted in suburban Sydney shooting

A member of an anti-Islamic extremist group has been targeted in a shooting in Sydney’s west overnight. Nathan Abela, 24, was not shot but suffered minor injury after ducking for cover from eight bullets that were fired into his Greystanes home. Witnesses told the police that they saw a silver Audi drive away from the premises.

1. CCTV footage released of Sophie Collombet

The police in Brisbane have released CCTV footage showing murdered French student Sophie Collombet on her journey home.

The naked and beaten body of the 21-year-old was found last Friday morning in a rotunda near the William Jolly Bridge.

Police believe she may have been travelling back from Griffith University.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Detective Inspector Rod Kemp said CCTV footage showed Ms Collombet carrying a large shoulder bag and umbrella on the night of her murder.

Several items, including an iPad, mobile phone and possibly a purse are still missing.

Police are also searching for the clothes and bag that Ms Collombet was last seen wearing.

2. Search for shark victim’s body

The search will resume this morning for the body of a 63-year-old woman who was taken by a shark at Tathra beach on the NSW far south coast.

Christine Armstrong was swimming with a group of friends when she was attacked by the shark.

3. Police investigate trampoline death

The NSW police are investigating the death of an 11-month-old girl whose family have said fell off a trampoline.

The girl, Bella Toohey, died in hospital yesterday morning after being rushed there by her father from their home, almost 20km away.

News Limited reports that Mr Toohey said his daughter fell from the trampoline and he decided to drive her to hospital himself.

4. Young jockey death

The death of 23-year-old jockey Nathan Berry has shocked the sporting community.

The recently married jockey was in Singapore when he was struck down with Norse Syndrome.

His family arranged for him to be flown by charter jet back to Sydney but he died shortly after landing yesterday.

5. British schoolgirl stuck in a drain

A British schoolgirl has become a twitter sensation after she became stuck in a drain while trying to rescue her phone that she had dropped.

Ella Birchenough, 16, said the phone slipped from her hand and fell in to the drain so she decided to climb in to get it. But she became quickly stuck.

Passers-by took pictures of the girl and tweeted them throughout her dramatic rescue by local fire fighters.

6. Cost of PM’s rental

Senate documents have revealed that the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet paid $65,000 in lease termination fees for the luxury home they rented for the Prime Minister while the Lodge undergoes repairs.

The PM decided to forgo the luxury home, instead preferring to stay at the $110 a night police college.

A three-year-old girl has been diagnosed with a rare eye disease after her mother put her photo on Facebook and friends noticed something was not right.

It has been reported that ‘Kate’, the RAAF cadet at the centre of the Australian Defence Force Academy “skype scandal”, has left the defence force.

A soldier said to have been showing signs of depression and anxiety has gone on a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, killing three people and wounding 16 ­others before killing himself.

The incident comes after a 2009 shooting at Fort Hood that left 13 dead and more than 30 injured.

10. Parents banned from naming son ‘Wikileaks’

A pair of German parents have tried to name their newborn son ‘Wikileaks’ but have been banned by their local registry office from doing so because it might endanger the child’s welfare.

Hajar Hamalaw wanted to name his newborn child after the online whistle-blowing platform because of his admiration for the site.

11. New Defence Force Chief

Vice Chief of the Defence Force Air Marshall Mark Binskin will be named today to replace General David Hurley as Australia’s next Defence chief.

Navy Chief Vice Admiral Ray Griggs will become the new Vice Chief of the Defence Force.
