Six cold weather problems that we can all relate to.

When the only way you can remember what warm weather feels like is to scroll longingly through your summer snaps, winter can feel like the worst.

It also doesn’t help that the northern hemisphere is living it up in summer while we’re trying to find a non-holey pair of socks to wear with our snuggies.

But it doesn’t have to be all bad. Firstly because you can guarantee we’re all feeling the same (hello scaly legs and runny noses), and secondly because there are ways to make those “cold weather problems” work for you. Say hello to the quick fixes that will make everything better.

1. Your skin feels like a reptile’s.

The constant change from the warmth of the heating to the blistering cold of outdoors can zap the moisture out of our skin leaving us with dry, scaly and even sore skin. And don’t even get us started on our feet. Gross.

To bring your body back to life, treat yourself to a super hydrating body moisturiser to slather all over in the morning and night or after your shower. Opt for one with a slight tint or gradual tan if you miss that summer glow.
If it’s your face that’s resembling the Sahara, it’s time to pick up a facial oil. It instantly plumpens, brightens and hydrates tired looking skin. I love a rosehip and jojoba combo.

2. The constant sniffles.

Spend most of last winter feeling under the weather and surrounded by a mound of used tissues or being rejected by strangers on the bus who don’t find your sniffles quite that endearing? Protect yourself this year by getting your flu shot before you feel the achey head.

Flu strains change every year which is why you need to get the flu vaccination annually. It will not only protect you from getting the flu, but also help reduce the spread of influenza throughout your local community and prevent it from being passed on to vulnerable people like the elderly or young children and babies.

Head to your local participating Terry White Chemmart, Terry White Chemists, Chemmart or Chemplus pharmacy to get the quadrivalent flu vaccine for just $14.95. The quadrivalent flu vaccine protects against four different flu viruses; two influenza A viruses and two influenza B viruses, meaning broader protection compared to previous shots. Plus, it's quick and easy to organise the whole family to get protected at once.

          3. You'd rather Netflix and snooze than head out on a Saturday night.

This is not a problem. As you were.

4. It's too cold for anything but comfy clothes or pyjamas.

Newsflash - daggy dressing is the new haute couture. From slip dresses that are basically nighties, pyjamas that have the Fashion Week stamp of approval to the return of the velour tracksuit (thanks Kylie Jenner) comfy clothes are cool again.

If anyone questions why you're wearing your dressing gown to dinner? They clearly don't understand #fashun.

5. Everything feels drab.

Resist the urge to wear black or grey constantly and add some colour. The rain doesn't have to dampen your fashion parade - don a superbly cut coat (or add a belt to an old one to instantly update it), a colourful raincoat or gumboots or even a swish of lippy in red, burgundy or hot pink. You'll feel instantly better.

6. You're feeling the winter blues.

There is only one cure - treat yo' self. That doesn't mean splashing the cash though. Run yourself a long, hot bath and use the "good" stuff you save for special occasions, indulge in an at-home face mask or manicure, light that fancy candle or settle in for a trashy TV marathon/book with your favourite bar of chocolate. You deserve it.

How are you staying protected from the flu this winter?
