Schapelle toasts her release in first photos

Women’s Day have published the first photos of Schapelle Corby since her release from Kerobokan prison yesterday. Corby is seen celebrating her freedom by drinking beer with brother Michael. The image has come amidst a media storm surrounding two of the Seven Network’s most popular journalists, who are currently involved in a heated argument over the amount the station is paying Corby for an interview. David Koch has slammed his own network, Channel Seven, for their decision to pay Corby, saying on Sunrise, ‘I totally disagree with paying a convicted drug smuggler $2 million.’ Mike Wilesee, who is conducting the interview in Bali. has returned fire, denying that Seven are paying that amount. ‘It’s not up there at all.’  Schapelle is currently staying at the Sentosa Seminyak luxury resort.   Photo: Woman’s Day

Gittany will spend 18 years behind bars 

Convicted balcony thrower Simon Gittany has today been sentenced to a minimum of 18 years in jail with no parole and a maximum of 26 years. Justice Lucy McCallum told the Supreme Court that the murder of his fiancé Lisa Harnum was neither planned nor premeditated because 'the intention to kill was formed suddenly and in a state of rage.' Gittany's sister was forced to leave the courtroom after crying out 'In the name of Jesus Christ, he won't be doing any of that time.'

Skateboard-towing Ted may be charged for son's injuries

Police will reportedly be charging Ted Bain for negligent driving, after the Sydney father drove his car whilst pulling  his 12-year-old son along on a skateboard . Lawrence Bain is currently in an induced coma in Sydney Children's Hospital with a fractured skull and bleeding on his brain. Police say the devastated Mr Bain was completely aware that he was towing his son at a low speed and has asked that 'you pray for my son.' Mr Bain hasn't been charged with any offence so far.

Breast cancer risk 60% higher for smokers

New figures from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre show that women  between 20 and 44 years old who smoke a packet of cigarettes a day are 60% more likely to contract breast cancer. The research also shows that women who smoke merely one-hundred cigarettes in their entire lifetime are 30% more likely to end up with breast cancer than those who don't. The figures relate to the most common type of breast cancer, 'oestrogen receptor-positive breast cancer.'
