Her father couldn't be there on her wedding day. So his colleagues stepped in.

A touching tribute turns a sad moment into something beautiful.

Kristen Mundell’s father was a policeman. He was killed in the line of duty in Washington, DC when Kristen was 16 years old.

It was a loss that was no doubt felt more keenly than ever on Kristen’s wedding day.

Family friend Detective Don Jones walked Kristen down the aisle, and kicked of the dance — but what happened next came as a total surprise.

Kent Mundell’s brothers in blue stepped in for their friend who could not be there, taking turns leading Kristen in her father-daughter dance.

“All of a sudden someone taps me on the shoulder and says, ‘Can I cut in?’ and I was shocked. I didn’t know how to react, how to respond,” Kristen told KOMO News.

“He said, ‘There’s a whole line of us,’ and right as he said that is when the next officer cut in and I just broke down.”

“There wasn’t a dry eye in the room,” said Detective Jones.

“People need to know that their family’s lives go on but they’re still affected by it every day,” Kristen told KOMO News. “I know they’re always there for me if I need them. I never thought they’d just show up.

“It was the best wedding surprise ever.”
