Father can no longer speak to his daughter after calling her a 'coconut'.

A father will no longer have any contact with his nine-year-old daughter after he repeatedly called her a “snobbish coconut”.

The 45-year-old man has been communicating with his daughter via Skype from Africa and telephone since she moved to Townsville in Queensland with her mother at the age of three.

The couple separated before she was born.

The man, who identifies as “Shona in descent and culture”, also refused to speak with the little girl in any language other than his Shona dialect, which she can’t fully understand, according to The Australian.

“Coconut” is a derogatory term implying that someone is black on the outside but white on the inside.

The father said he believed his child was losing touch with her heritage, despite her mother’s insistence she is a “typical Queensland school girl” who is “proud of her African culture”.

It’s unknown which country in Africa the girl’s father is from.

Judge Peter Tree, who oversaw the case, said the child risked emotional harm if the relationship continued.

“The child says, and I accept notwithstanding the father’s denial, that on at least one occasion the father has called her a ‘coconut’,” he said.

“The child has found that description of her as very upsetting.”

In a statement, the little girl said she dreaded visiting her dad because he was “nasty and horrible”.

“He is mean, horrible and nasty. I don’t call him Father. I don’t call him anything… I haven’t told my friends about him because I don’t feel good about him,” she said.
