One word: Beyonce.

Meet Beyonce

Beyoncé – wife of Jay Z, mother of Blue Ivy and that crazy level of famous where you forego a last name because EVERYONE knows who you are. For those not in the ‘know’ on Beyonce, she’s also a widely successful singer, songwriter, actress and loads more.

Let’s recap this star’s meteoric rise to fame:

Destiny’s Child:

Back when she was still known as Beyoncé Knowles, Beyoncé formed one third of the incredibly dynamic trio of ‘independent women’, Destiny’s Child. With Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland, Beyoncé kept the hits coming over and over again with fun, feisty women’s anthems Bootylicious, Soldier & Survivor. It was a sad day for the fans when they announced their disbandment in 2005. Luckily for us, the girls joined Beyoncé on stage for an electrifying performance at the 2013 SuperBowl of some of their greatest hits. It was phenomenal.

The Solo Years:

In her solo career Beyoncé reached dizzying new heights with Crazy In Love, branched out with a starring role in Austin Powers in GoldMember, and charted success with Jay Z and others in a series of music collaborations. She cultivated her alter-ego Sasha Fierce, achieved acclaim for her turn in Dreamgirls and launched her fashion and perfume lines.

Love and Family:

Beyonce proudly released this photo of her daughter, Blue Ivy. Adorable.

Beyoncé and Jay Z are one of the few power couples in Hollywood who have managed to keep their relationship extremely private. From their secret courtship to their hush-hush wedding in 2008 they have struck a sweet balance between supporting each other’s careers and keeping their relationship to themselves at the same time.

Their family unit expanded with the birth of daughter Blue Ivy Carter in January 2012. Beyoncé’s star power and likability further increased with her new role as mother. In Jay-Z’s song introducing Blue Ivy’s birth the couple acknowledged the painful miscarriage they had suffered in their journey to parenthood.

A little more of a 411 on Queen B:

Beyonce, Jay-Z and President Obama. BFFS

1. Apart from Madonna, no one else can coin phrases that entered the pop culture vernacular with the vengeance and light-hearted frivolity that Beyoncé did with ‘All the Single Ladies’. That song has become the night club catch cry of sassy single women around the world.

2. Alongside hubby Jay Z, Beyoncé is friends besties with Barack and Michelle Obama. Since we love Beyoncé and the Obamas we are going to call this one utter fabulousness.

3. She endorses same sex marriage.

4. Beyoncé is one of the most nominated women in Grammy history. Up there with Dolly Parton. We love it.

5. She’s super close with her mum Tina. So close that Tina helps Bey run her fashion line (House of Dereon) and her philathrophic efforts.

6. Hails from Houston, Texas.

7. Has one sister, Solange and a nephew, Daniel. She’s also known as Aunty B to Gywneth’s kids Apple and Moses.

8. Started with Destiny’s Child (then called Girl Tyme) in 1990.

9. Her middle name is Giselle.

10. An Australian horse fly species is named after her.
