Why has women's underwear become the biggest story at Wimbledon?

Sabine Lisicki flashed her whites at Wimbledon last year.

The Wimbledon fashion police are cracking down this year with players told that the when it comes to on court outfits, they want it “almost entirely white.”

Weirdly, that rule applies to underwear

Tournament referee Andrew Jarrett said: “Undergarments that either are or can be visible during play, including due to perspiration, must also be completely white and contain no more than 1cm of coloured trim.”

If a player breaks the rules they will be sent to the referees’ office where a “supply of suitable clothing” will be provided.

(What is this, primary school?)

Wimbledon spokesman Jon Friend said the rule was in place last year but not strongly enforced.

According to Jarrett, “Common standards of decency are required at all times” and apparently fluro knickers sported in tournaments gone by do not fall into that category.

ALSO: Heaven forbid we should actually talk about how brilliant female athletes are… Or let them choose their own knickers…
