Moving on: Heather Maltman's new acting gig is on the big screen.

“I’m trying to move on from the fact that I did get my heart broken.” And acting is how she’s going to do it.

Fresh from getting dumped on national TV, former Bachelorette Heather Maltman is healing her shattered heart in the only way she knows how – by ACTING.

The 29-year-old filmmaker/aspiring actress/choker enthusiast is set to star in an upcoming Australian Bollywood film titled UNIndian. The film is a love story between an Indian single mother and an Australian man, played by cricket legend Brett Lee.

Maltman’s in it for two minutes – which is still a step up from her two-second McDonald’s cameo – and she plays the role of a camerawoman.

But still, she’s saying this is the way to mend her “broken heart”.

“I’m trying to move on from the fact that I did get my heart broken,” she told Sydney Confidential.

“The Bachelor was just a chapter of my life, this really cool really interesting risk that I took in putting myself out there and the fact that it has given me a bit of a voice was really unexpected and yet appreciated,” she said. “I would love to be able to continue having that voice with the audience that I guess I’ve created or become a part of and have my career at the same time.”

While recognition is an added bonus, Maltman says of course that’s not why she went on the show. In fact, she didn’t even know it was going to be successful.

“Going on to the show was such a curve ball because I didn’t know how big The Bachelor was and it kind of took me by surprise,” she said.

In the few days since she was dumped by Bachelor Sam Wood, Heather has been hounded with support by completely random fans who were devastated over Sam’s decision. Her Instagram followers have exploded, garnering over 30,000 in just a few weeks, and she’s been followed by paparazzi for weeks. All of which are hard enough to navigate when you’re actually in a relationship with somebody, but as Heather knew she didn’t end up with Sam at the end of the season, it was all the more difficult.

“It’s been one of the hardest things I’ve had to do during a break-up — to go along with the idea that he picked me,” she told The Daily Telegraph.

“Everyone thought he picked me. It’s a relief to finally be honest and say, ‘He actually broke my heart’.”

If there’s one good thing to come out of public heartbreak, it’s getting some great career opportunities. Granted, UNIndian was filmed in Sydney last year, but we’re positive her newfound fame as favourite rejected Bachelorette of the moment will lead to something pretty great soon.

Her two-minute cameo in UNIndian can be viewed in full when it premieres in Australian cinemas on October 15.

Who knows what’s next for Maltman — maybe a short-lived stint on Home and Away.
