Emily Ratajkowski sticks up for Melania Trump over "slut shaming" comments.

No matter what you think of her husband’s political views, we can all agree Melania Trump has been thrown a lot of shade recently.

Since the inauguration, the US First Lady has had to defend herself from constant personal attacks, including unsubstantiated allegations that she was an escort.

This week she’s found an unlikely ally in actress, model and feminist activist Emily Ratajkowski.

Listen: Why the mocking of Melania Trump is not on. (Post continues after audio.)

The outspoken star has come out to bat for the First Lady on Twitter, calling out a New York Times journalist after they apparently branded Mrs. Trump “a hooker” at New York Fashion Week.

Many on Twitter were quick to agree with Ratajkowski.

“Melania’s life career was modeling. Never expected to be FLOTUS. Didn’t pose nude knowing 15yrs later she’d be here,” one of her followers wrote.

The FLOTUS has in turn thanked the Gone Girl star for making a stand.

Tweeting from her official FLOTUS handle, she wrote: “Applause to all women around the world who speak up, stand up and support other women! @emrata #PowerOfEveryWoman #PowerOfTheFirstLady”

The New York Times has addressed the comments in a statement:

“At a party last night, a Times reporter who does not cover Washington or politics, referred to an unfounded rumour regarding Melania Trump,” the newspaper said in a statement.

“The comment was not intended to be public, but it was nonetheless completely inappropriate and should not have occurred. Editors have talked to the reporter in question about the lapse.”

The moral of the story? Think before you casually slut shame ANY woman.
