1.Election result might take a month to be finalised.

The Australian Electoral Commission can’t say when a result of the federal election will be known, but the official outcome of could take up to a month.

The result is currently too close to call. Neither the Coalition nor Labor is yet assured of enough seats form a majority government, ABC News reports.

Australia is now facing the possibility of a hung parliament.

The Coalition government suffered a 2.8 per cent swing against it at the election, but Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says he’s “quietly confident” the Coalition will secure enough votes to form a majority government, ABC News reports.

Turnbull also says he is confident of a resolution by the end of this week.

Counting resumes on Tuesday.

2. Boy critical after car slams into tree.

A five-year-old Victorian boy is in a critical condition after a car careened into a tree in regional Victoria yesterday.

A silver Holden sedan was travelling north along Wangoom-Warrumyea Road near Warrnambool, when it careened off the road about 3pm and hit a tree.

The boy, who had been riding in the car with the 35-year-old female driver, was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating.

3. Baghdad market bombs kill at least 119.

At least 119 people have been killed and more than180 injured when two bombings hit crowded markets in Iraq's capital, ABC News reports.

A truck packed with explosives blew up in Karrada, a busy shopping area in Baghdad, on Saturday night.

Shortly after that, another explosion went off in the east of the city. It killed at least five people.

Islamic State (ISIS) issued a statement claiming the Karrada suicide bombing, ABC News report.

The attacks took place during Ramadan, which is supposed to be a month of peace.

4. Ivanka Trump claims her dad is a feminist.

US presidential candidate Donald Trump's daughter claims the presidential candidate is a feminist.

Ivanka Trump, 34, said the Republican nominee, 70, had “employed women at the highest levels” of his businesses and has “lived” gender equality.

 Ivanka, 34, who works on his campaign, told The Sunday Times her father’s feminism was “a big reason I am the woman I am today”.

She added: “He’s also surrounded me with strong female role models who have done just that since I was a little girl."

Donald Trump has consistently polled badly with US women in the recent months of the election campaign. A Fox News poll last month showed him 19% behind Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton among female voters.

Trump has previously called women "fat pigs", "dogs", "slobs", "bimbos" and "disgusting animals”.

He has also said that pumping breast milk is "disgusting".

5. Michelle Payne shares impressive scar photo.

Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne has shared an image of her post-surgery scar just weeks after a bad fall that damaged her pancreas.

Payne posted the photo to Instagram on Sunday, captioning it: "Some scar! Thankfully getting better all the time."

Payne, 30, suffered a heavy fall while riding at the Mildura races in May. She was rushed to hospital, where she ultimately had to have much of her pancreas sewn back on.

As Mamamia previously reported, Payne said she'd lost all memory of her Melbourne Cup win in 2015 during the fall.

6. Tourist has leg partially blown off in Central Park.

A young man has been critically injured following an explosion in Central Park. The victim had part of his leg blown off when he stepped on something while climbing rocks with friends, The Daily Mail reports.

The victim was a tourist, visiting from the US state of Virginia.

7. Medicare texts outed as fake.

Police are investigating the source of thousands of fraudulent text messages claiming to be from Medicare, news.com.au reports.

The messages, first reported by news.com.au, were sent to voters on election day from an account claiming to be Medicare.

“Mr Turnbull’s plans to privatise Medicare will take us down the road of no return,” the texts read. “Time is running out to save Medicare.”

The Department of Human Services, the government department responsible for Medicare, confirmed the messages were fraudulent and had not been sent by them.

Australian Federal Police told news.com.au the matter had been referred to them on Saturday for investigation.
