Dreamworld worker posts sick jokes about the tragic deaths of four people on social media.

It is a week of shock, fear, disbelief and anger, following the deaths of four people at Gold Coast theme park Dreamworld on Tuesday.

Now, one Dreamworld contractor is being slammed on social media because between the shock, fear, disbelief and anger, he has turned to humour.

“On a positive note … At least they died having fun …” Benn Rattray, 38, who is a contractor at the Coomera theme park, posted to Facebook yesterday.

He was referring to the four people who lost their lives when their raft on the Thunder River Rapids ride overturned on Tuesday afternoon. Kate Goodchild, 32, Cindy Low, 42, Luke Dorsett, 35, and Roozi Araghi, 38, died at the scene. Two children, Ebony Goodchild, 12, and Keiren Low, 10, were also on the raft. They survived the accident that claimed their mothers’ lives.

It wasn't Rattray's first attempt at humour.

On Tuesday, just hours after the accident, Rattray posted a link to a story about the tragedy on his Facebook page. His comment on the article read: “Oops, I knew I forgot something”.

According to the Courier Mail, he followed this up with: “Just heading back to Dreamworld to tighten up the conveyor belt . Was supposed to do it after smoko but forgot …”

Rattray's comments have been called "abhorrent" by a spokeswoman for Dreamworld, who spoke to news.com.au this morning. She said his employer, IPS Logistics, is dealing with the situation.

On social media, the backlash has been harsh. According to the Courier Mail, one of the worker's Facebook friends replied to his original post saying: “I knew these people ... Their kids aren’t laughing.”

The comments are just as scathing on Rattray's latest status update, which reads: "Don't believe everything you read.. Especially online...#IseenItOnTheInternetSoItMustBeTrue".

Rattray isn't backing down. In an interview with news.com.au, he doubled down on his comments saying they might be considered insensitive but that is "the nature of adult humour".

“Yes I made those comments to my friends, I make inappropriate jokes all the time,” he said. “(I make) 9/11 jokes to piss off the yanks, religious jokes to piss off the religious nuts and the comments about forgetting to tighten the conveyor was my bulls**t response to my friends who had tagged me in a post. Why is everyone making a big fuss about it?”

“Fat people get offended by fat jokes, black people get offended by black jokes, religious nuts get offended by religious jokes. But on the same token, fat people also laugh about fat jokes, black people also laugh at black jokes and the occasional (religious person) can laugh at their fragile beliefs.”

“Of course I would apologise to the families. I’ll do it now since everyone takes my words as gospel.”

Just when we thought the Dreamworld story couldn't get any worse.
