Dreamworld: Roozbeh Araghi's family forced to call triple-0 to get information from authorities after his death

The family of a man who was killed on a Dreamworld ride say they were forced to call triple-0 in a desperate attempt to get information because police failed to contact them.

Roozbeh Araghi died alongside his partner Luke Dorsett, Luke’s sister Kate Goodchild and 42-year-old Cindy Low when the Thunder River Rapids ride malfunctioned at the Gold Coast theme park on Tuesday.

His brother Simon Araghi told the ABC no-one contacted the family after the tragedy.

“We resorted to even ringing triple-0 and trying to get through to the police station via that,” Mr Araghi said.

“We had three of us on hold for well over an hour.”

Queensland Police Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd insisted police worked hard to identify the next of kin and advise them.

“We have been in contact and negotiation and support of those families from the start,” he said.

But on Thursday night, Mr Araghi said he still had not heard from authorities.

The family was contacted by Deborah Thomas, the CEO of Ardent Leisure, which manages Dreamworld, and another executive on Thursday.

“I finally got a call wanting to discuss things and offering their support, but I told them we don’t want to discuss it,” Mr Araghi said.

“I would have preferred the call a lot earlier.

“They apologised and I think wanted to see if they can work through things with us privately, but to be honest it’s not really on our radar at the moment.”

Queensland Police said they would be urgently following up with the South-East Region police command about the process in notifying next of kin and liaising with each family of the victims.

Mr Araghi said his family is mourning the loss of three special people.

“We loved all of them and we’ll always miss every single moment,” he said.

“Roozi was the most amazing brother, uncle, son and partner and Luke and Kate were part of our family.”

The family is waiting to find out when they can plan a funeral.

“We’re very much restricted by when we can get my brother back,” Mr Araghi said.

Dreamworld has cancelled today’s planned memorial opening saying it does not want to compromise the ongoing police investigation.

The theme park will now remain closed until at least Monday.
