Ring the dinner bell. Alert the aristocrats.
Downton Abbey may be coming to an end, but the good word is that everyone’s favourite period drama might be made into a movie. And we’re a little excited.
Executive Producer of the British drama Gareth Neath told journalists at the 2015 Television Critics Association Press Tour that the idea of a Downton Abbey movie has been discussed. With the show wrapping up just before the 1929 stockmarket crash, Neath believes that there is much more drama left in the Crawley family’s life.
‘I think Downton Abbey Movie could be a wonderful thing,’ he told the press council.
And while nothing has been confirmed, we think Maggie Smith would be up for it. Take a look at the 9 things we’d be excited to see happen or return if there was a Downton Abbey movie:
1. Carson and Mrs Hughes finally realise their love for each other.
You knows it's just meant to be...
2. Edith is finally accepted as a single mother.
And being able to raise her daughter in the house she grew up in.
3. Matthew and Sybil return from the grave (in the least zombie like way possible).
We mean come on...they were the best characters.
4. Isobel and Violet's wit returns.
5. The demise of Thomas.
After six seasons, it's about time he got what was coming for him. But we don't want to be mean. We want Thomas to fall hopelessly in love so he becomes a ridiculously nice person.
6. Lady Mary...generally.
Her love life. Her one liners. Her wit. Her fashion choices. Lady Mary is the character everyone loves to hate.
7. The complicated plot lines.
Remember when Lady Mary was in love with Mathew Crawley but was sleeping with a foreign diplomat who was staying at the Crawley manor, then he died while they were having sex and she had to get rid of his body? Of course you do. Complicated, but we love it.
8. The servants referring to each other as their first names....Imagine.
No more Mrs Hughes and Mrs Patmore. Shock.
