Have you ever wondered why women cover themselves up on the beach while men of various fitness levels strut around in budgie smugglers? This video could hold the key.
Last week a new Dove campaign, Real Beauty Sketches, went viral garnering over 16 million views on YouTube and within days US comedy group, New Feelings Time, uploaded a parody of the ad.
The original advertisement successfully challenges the way women perceive ourselves and our beauty by asking women to describe themselves and then having a forensic artist sketch them from the words alone. A stranger also describes the women for the sketch artist and then the drawings are compared – the result was astonishing.

Oh so feminism is the new persecution now? As in positive discrimination?
I'm sick of campaigns which aim to address the imbalances of the past by creating the opposite imbalance in the present. To punish the men of the present for what men of the past were guilty of. That sort of injustice just creates rage in the men who have to cop it, completely undermining what society should be aiming for.
I am not a misogynist. I don't judge people on appearances. I don't think a certain sex, religion, nationality, etc is better or worse than another. I try to judge people on their merit. But still I have to watch campaigns like Dove's which aim to make women feel better (and therefore buy from them!!) by making men feel bad about themselves.
