Big news, Dirty John fans: Season 2 is in the works. Here's what we know so far.

In excellent news for those of us who devoured season one of Dirty John in a single sitting, there’s a second season of the gripping true crime series in the works.

And we’ve got one rather big question about it.

The first season, adapted from the Los Angeles Times podcast of the same name by journalist Christopher Goffard, came in eight, nail-biting parts that had viewers gripped from the get-go.

Watch the trailer for season one below. Post continues after.

Dirty John follows the now-notorious con artist and predator, John Meehan, who wooed single mum Debra Newell on a dating site before fooling her into an intense relationship using an expertly-spun web of lies. He concealed his criminal history, falsely claimed he was a doctor, and hid a drug addiction.

As fans of the show will know, Meehan was killed by Debra's daughter Terra in self-defence, so we've got huge questions about where season two will go. We do know we'll be treated to an all-new cast and storyline.

Deadline reports that the season will be a "different and self-contained story", adding that more details will be released at a later date.

The season two announcement comes just days after Netflix dropped a Dirty John documentaryDirty John: The Dirty Truth features interviews with Debra Newell and her two daughters Jacquelyn and Terra Newell as well as John’s ex wife Tonia Sells and other women who were tormented by John.

There is currently no release date set for season two, but season one of Dirty John is available to stream now on Netflix.
