Why this secret code appears in all your favourite kids' films.

The same mysterious code appears in every Disney Pixar movie ever made. We find out why.

The mystery of the code A113 has finally been revealed, with movie makers fessing up to what they call an ‘inside joke’.

This code has appeared in 13 of the 14 Disney Pixar movies, including all three Toy Story movies, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, Up, A Bug’s Life, Brave as well as numerous other movies such as The Hunger Games and TV series like The Simpsons and American Dad.

So what on earth does A113 mean?

It turns out A113 refers to the animation classroom at California Institute of the Arts, one of the best animation schools in the world, attended by multiple award-winning filmmakers, including John Lasseter, chief creative officer at Disney Pixar and Brad Bird who directed several of the movies in question.

John Lasseter, left, produced the Toy Stories series and Brad Bird, right, directed The Incredibles

By including A133 in all the movies and shows they create, John, Brad and other alumni pay homage to the place they all learned to do what they love.

When asked about the elusive code, Brad told The Daily Mail, 'I put it into every single one of my films, including my Simpsons episodes.'  He even uses it for his Twitter handle - BradBirdA113.

So next time you are watching an animated movie or TV show, keep an eye out for the classroom that taught all your favourite filmmakers to create these amazing works.
