Incredibly easy fixes for clothes you thought were ruined.

Red wine on a white shirt. Ink stains on trousers. Ladders in stockings.

Casual wear and tear happens every day to our clothes – and to some items more than others (white shirts are always a casualty). But they can be fixed easier than you think, and often with something you already have at home.

1. Use permanent marker to cover bleach stains on black clothing.

There's nothing worse than a splattering of bleach on a black top. But it's easily fixed. Simply use a permanent marker to colour in the stain and your black top is practically as good as new.

2. Use white wine and baking soda to remove red wine stains.

Wearing white and drinking red? You're bound to end up with a big splodge on your shirt. Thankfully it can be easily fixed. Grab some white wine (yes, really) and pour around a cup in to a bowl. Add a spoonful of baking powder and make a paste, then simply apply the paste to the stain and leave it on for two hours. Then wash the shirt as usual.

3. Use hairspray to remove ink and lipstick stains from clothes.

Simply spray the hair spray onto the stain, and then rub with a damp cloth until the stain is removed.

4. Use Windex to remove stains and hide scratches on Patent leather.

Instead of forking out $20 on patent leather cleaner, use Windex. The glass cleaner can be used to clean patent leather shoes and bags.

5. Use lemon juice to remove armpit odours on shirts.

If your T-shirt has a built-up smell in the armpit, rub some lemon juice on it and let it sit for a few hours. Then put it in the washing machine as normal. If odours have turned to stains, add some baking powder to the lemon before plastering it on the yellowish  fabric.

6. Use clear nail polish to prevent ladders in stockings running further.

Ladders in stockings are frustrating, and easy to come by. As soon as a ladder starts to appear, put some clear nail polish on it to prevent the stocking from splitting further.

7. Use shaving cream to remove liquid makeup from shirt colloars and turtleneck collars.

Foundation on your jumper or makeup stain on your collar? Leave some shaving cream on it for an hour then wash it off - the stain should be gone.

8. Use a paste of talcum powder and water to remove oil stains.

Talcum powder can be used on a wet oil stain to remove it. Just rub the talcum powder on the spot, leave it for 30 minutes and put it in the wash.

9. Use a hairdryer to get creases out of clothes.

Everyone hates ironing. Especially ironing silk clothes. The best way to avoid it is to put your creased clothes on - and use your hairdryer on your clothes instead of your hair. Simple.

10. Use baby wipes to remove those pesky white deodarant marks on your shirts or dresses.

Baby wipes aren't just for babies. If you have deodorant stains on the outside of your shirt, grab some baby wipes and it will be removed straight away.

11. Use your freezer to remove chewing gum from clothing.

If you sit in chewing gum, whack your pants or jeans in the freezer for a few hours. The chewing gum should lose all stickiness, making it easier to peel it off.
