Clare Bowditch is one of our favourite Aussie ladies.
She’s an ARIA award-winning songstress, a Logie-nominated actor, the founder of Big Hearted Business (an organisation that aims to bring the creative and business industries together, allowing them to learn from one another) and, on top of all of that, she’s a mum to three gorgeous kids.
Show + Tell’s Monty Dimond sat down with Clare to discuss what her mother did to help her become such a big success. Here’s a sneak peek:

Not buy too many toys and not over scheduling. As a result I've always been creative and now a visual artist.
My Mum fed us brilliantly. I didn't realise it at the time, of course, all I knew was that other kids got to have lollies and take away on a far more regular basis than I did. Everything was homemade, we always had fruit and vegetables, we never had soft drink unless it was someone's birthday (and even then it was mineral water with cordial, not Coke or Sprite). We made cakes, and we all learned how to cook.
Can't fault her on that score, even though I wasn't a fan at the time. I plan on passing on the same eating habits to my own children, and will help them learn how to cook for themselves. Might explain to my kids a little more clearly, however, as to why all the fruit and vegetables and lack of lollies are important.
My mum was the same, everything made from scratch and no packaged rubbish. Now with my own kids I try to do the same, but already my 4 year old thinks that honey oat slice/ pikelets/muffins are "so boring" and nags incessantly for all the packaged treats she sees other kids eating at preschool. And I totally use the mineral water with juice as the soft drink alternative! It's hard to go against the grain when they are little and SO brainwashed with the junk food options, but well worth it long term. I just hope my kids appreciate it when they are old enough to realise the value of good nutrition!!
