Chris Hemsworth doesn't speak his wife's native language - but it's only a problem when they fight.

When Chris Hemsworth hears Spanish, he knows he’s in trouble.

The Avengers actor shared on the Ellen Degeneres Show on Thursday that he speaks only “one sentence” of Spanish, despite it being his wife, actress Elsa Pataky’s native language.

And this lack of fluency (or any basic understanding) places him at a disadvantage when it comes to family disagreements.

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan were meant to be #couplegoals, but they’ve just broken up. So are couple goals bullsh*t asks the Out Loud team? Post continues.

The pair’s three children, India Rose, five, and four-year-old sons Tristan and Sasha are fluent in Spanish, and the 34-year-old told Ellen Degeneres this is the language his wife uses to scold them.

“My wife will be telling them off and I’ll be standing there like, ‘That’s right!’,” he said, adding that he’d be muttering to his wife, “What does that mean?”

The Aussie actor shared that Spanish was also Elsa’s language of choice when she’s yelling at him – so it’s not exactly a fair fight.

“When I hear the Spanish directed at me, it’s usually unfortunate, controversial, aggressive situations,” he said.

“So I’m just thinking, ‘What is she saying right now?’ and ‘What’s my comeback to this?’ When we’re fighting, basically — which is never! If she gets angry enough she’ll drop the English façade.”

Pataky has previously told ELLE magazine, that despite an Instagram feed that suggests otherwise, they are just as flawed and have just as many “bad days” as any normal couple.

And in particular, the early years of their marriage, when they welcomed three children just as Hemsworth career exploded in the early 2010s, were tough. But they also made the couple’s relationship “strong”, she said.

“I think any time you start a family without knowing each other that much, it can be complicated,” the 41-year-old said during the interview in January.

“He was very young [28 years old when India arrived] to be starting a family, and at the same time he was juggling that with his career and it was sometimes difficult, there was so much going on.

“He always trying to be the best dad and has never failed to make me feel like his family is the most important thing to him.

“[Going through that] is how we’ve become so strong together.”
