Child held hostage at knifepoint in Logan near Brisbane, Queensland police say.

A man is holding a knife to a child at a house in Logan, south of Brisbane, Queensland police have said.

Police negotiators are on the scene in Barossa Street at Kingston, as are paramedics.

They are trying to get the man to release his hostage.

It is believed the man has also smashed furniture inside the house.

Authorities were alerted to the incident about 5:00am.
