A tragic turn of events on the Central Coast of NSW yesterday.

A mother and her three-month-old baby boy have fallen six metres from a balcony at their home. The baby boy, named Aiden died after he fell past the garage to the concrete driveway.

The mother hit the garage directly below and it is reported that she broke her back.

News Limited say neighbours heard loud arguing from a man and a woman moments before the woman and her baby fell.

According the The Daily Telegraph, “A neighbour said she was inside her house just after 1pm when she heard a man and a woman shouting, followed by a “bang”.”

“I heard a man scream and then I heard a woman scream and a man screaming and then a big bang,” the neighbour said.

Also at the scene was an upturned sofa on the balcony that police photographed.

Baby Aiden died after critical injuries

The baby was taken by Careflight helicopter to Westmead Children’s Hospital but he died yesterday afternoon. The 43-year old mother was last night in Gosford Hospital with serious back injuries.

News Limited report that the mother was often seen feeding her newborn on the balcony.

The area through which she fell was a stainless steel waist height barrier with a fly screen above it.

Inspector Paul Nicholls told the media that the police investigation would focus on “a number of avenues of inquiry”.

“The investigation is in its infancy at the moment and we will interview a number of people and conduct a number of inquiries to determine what happened,” he said.
