The Australian Bureau of Statistics has collated the data gathered from the 2016 Census and released a snapshot of the ‘typical’ Australian.
Are you ready?
The typical Australian is said to be a 38-year-old woman who was born here, whose parents were born here, and who has English ancestry.
She is married, has two kids and has completed Year 12. She lives in a three-bedroom house with two cars and completes around five to 14 hours of domestic work per week.
It sounds like they just found Kath from Kath and Kim, but that might just be me.

If the census is correct then I am the typical Australian (I don't identify with Kath thanks) so why aren't my values reflected in government policies? I don't agree with locking up refugees or allowing the Great Barrier reef to be destroyed, I want affordable childcare and better maternity leave. Who is this government working for cause its not this typical Australian?
Let's see how I measure up against the ABS typical female Australian:
38-year-old woman > I'm a 36-year-old woman
Born here > Yes
Parents were born here > 1 of my 2 parents born here
English ancestry > 50% English, 25% Scottish, 25% Mediterranean
She is married > Enagaged/ defacto, to a 'migrant'
Has two kids > Have one currently (met my Mr Right a bit later than most)
Completed Year 12 > Yes, then uni
She lives in a three-bedroom house > Moving from 1.5 to 3 bedroom this month
With two cars > One car household
Completes around five to 14 hours of domestic work per week > Closer to 14 hours with a baby right now
Has a mortgage > Rent right now, no debts
Oooh, I'm so average! Ha ha
