René Angélil, husband of Celine Dion, has died aged 73.

Angélil, who served as Dion’s manager from the time she was 12, had battled cancer three times.

“Rene Angélil, 73, passed away this morning as his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer,” a representative for the family said in a statement.

“The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time.”

Dion and Angélil share three sons, René-Charles, 14, and twins Nelson and Eddy, five. Angélil also has three adult children from a previous marriage, Anne-Marie, Patrick and Jean-Pierre.

In August of last year, Dion discussed her husband’s losing battle with cancer to USA Today.

“You can have your shaking knees at the end, but when someone you love falls and needs help, it’s not time to cry,” she said.

“Afterwards, sure. But not yet.”
