Former-Greens leader Bob Brown tells court he was molested multiple times at school.

Environmentalist, former senator and Greens Party leader Bob Brown was molested multiple times by a choirmaster during his primary school years, a Sydney court heard earlier today.

Brown discussed the events while giving evidence against Ian Douglas Davidson, a teacher at Brown’s former school, Sydney Grammar’s St Ives preparatory.

Davidson is currently facing 14 counts of indecent assault that stretch back as far at 1962, all of which he denies.

Speaking to the court via video link, Brown spoke of three separate occasions in which Davidson fondled him.

The first was in an empty classroom after choir practice.

The second took place in a storage shed on school grounds. Brown told the court that Davidson was stopped by “a knock on the door” from the school principal.

The third occasion took place on a train travelling between Armidale and Tamworth with other students present. Of the event, Brown told the court, “He [Davidson] sat down next to me and fondled me in the box carriage.

“It was dark and I don’t think the other boys could see what was going on.”

Brown continued, saying that he was “highly embarrassed by the event.”

According to Brown the events occurred in 1956, when he was 12 years old.

When challenged by Davidson’s defence lawyers, Brown said that he had “a very clear recollection” of what had happened, and that he was “so embarrassed, it has burned into my mind.”

The following year Brown moved to Coffs Harbour High School.

None of the 14 charges that 84-year-old Davidson is facing relate to Brown.

The trial continues.
