Q. Aren't cuffs jewellery for wrists? A. Not if you want to be on trend.

Ear cuffs have followed the culotte fashion trajectory. First, a couple of front-rowers at international fashion shows are photographed wearing them. That’s ok. They are FASHION PEOPLE. And they wear things like sheepskin stilettos and underwear as outerwear and, when pushed, other people:

Stills from the Rick Owens show over the weekend.

After the FASHION PEOPLE embrace the trend, everything goes eerily quiet and we convince ourselves we were right. The trajectory dives and there is new-trend silence. We kid ourselves into believing no-one is going to wear those unforgiving, awkward culottes; no-one is going to wear heeled sneakers (they're sneakers!); no-one over 12 is going to wear a playsuit.

Then, without warning, the trajectory shoots north and playsuits and culottes and heeled sneakers and crop jackets so mini they barely cover your shoulders appear in everyday life. And not on FASHION PEOPLE. A friend at the movies, the window of Topshop and Country Road, in your hands at the counter.

Now it's ear cuffs that are moving on up. They've gone from a fierce, rebellious, fashion-forward accessory to being available at the counter of David Jones.

First sighted on Karlie Kloss at the spring/summer 2013 fashion shows, they're now - gasp - wearable. A bit bolder than hoop earrings. Delicate enough to wear to the races as something special. The right pair low-key enough for work, the fun pair perfect for play.

Debrief Daily finds ear cuffs for every occasion. Why not?
