Baby Sophie has burns all over her body. Her parents want your help.

One Sydney family should be planning a wedding. Instead, they’re by their baby’s hospital bed.

Meet baby Sophie. She’s just 20 months old, and she has serious burns all over her body.

Little Sophie was exploring her Sydney family home earlier this week when she pulled a fresh cup of tea down from the bench. The scalding hot drink poured all over her tiny body, burning her delicate skin.

Sophie was rushed to hospital, where she underwent the first of many surgeries yesterday. She now faces months of further surgeries and costly skin grafts, according to Facebook group Central Coast Mums.

Her overwhelmed parents are now appealing for help online, and are hoping to crowdfund thousands of dollars for their daughter’s medical care.

In a cruel twist of fate, the accident took place just days before her parents’ wedding, which is scheduled for Friday.

Sophie’s distressed mum and dad, who also have a son with autism, have cancelled their honeymoon so every dollar they have can go into their little girl’s recovery at Westmead Children’s Hospital.

But they’re worried even those funds won’t be enough to quite literally save their little girl’s skin.

“She is being a strong little girl with mummy by her side,” a GoFundMe crowdfunding page said of brave Sophie.

“Doing everything they can, Sophie’s parents have spent their every waking moment by her side in hospital.”

“She is being a strong little girl with mummy by her side,” Sophie’s mum wrote.

The family had a brief moment of happiness when they learned Sophie would be discharged from hospital today — just in time to attend her parent’s wedding tomorrow.

But as the young family braces for months of surgeries ahead, the GoFundMe page continues to accept donations.

“Sophie will still be required to attend the children’s hospital for fresh dressings every few days and also skin graft procedures,” the page said.

“But for now, having her home for the wedding is a small victory.”
