GRAB A GLASS: This $6 Aussie bottle of red has just won a major international wine award.

We have your wine selection sorted for this weekend, a smooth Cabernet Sauvingnon from South Australia that pairs excellently with rich Italian food.

It smells of black cherry, plum and cranberry, and it recently received a “Double Gold” medal at the Melbourne International Wine Competition.

Oh, and you can be a total wine snob, spouting these facts and boasting these accolades… Secretly knowing you bought the bottle for only $6.

You read that right: $6.

The St Andrews 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon was up against some of the world’s most prestigious labels at the 5th Annual Melbourne International Wine Competition, held on June 11.

A glass was presented to judges – a panel of (minimum) four qualified trade buyers – in a blind tasting and was awarded ‘Gold’ by every panel member.

The unanimous vote resulted in the ‘Double Gold’ award.

Michelle the Commando do eat pasta and drink wine. Post continues below.

Now, it’s up there with wines from New Zealand, Italy and France in the competition’s most highly-regarded category.

(Obviously, it’s about a quarter of the price of the other contenders.)

You can find your $6 weekend drop through Coles-owned outlets such as Liquorland, First Choice and Vintage Cellars.

Happy Friday and don’t say we never did anything for you!
