Anna Faris wants us to know her actual marriage to Chris Pratt looked very different to Instagram.

In an interview with Dax Shepard on his podcast Armchair Expert, Anna Faris has spoken about her eight year marriage to actor Chris Pratt, and the “excruciating” divorce that followed.

“We intentionally cultivated this idea of like, ‘Look at this beautiful family,'” the 41-year-old Overboard actress said.

“It was rewarding for a while,” she added.

The social media accounts of both Faris and Pratt featured their seemingly flawless marriage, and their young son Jack. Pratt’s Instagram in particular often made headlines, with people all over the world envying the relationship of two of Hollywood’s funniest entertainers.

We need to talk about the ‘engagement piercing’ trend. Post continues below.

“There were so many moments that were like that but like anything on social media, you don’t post like, ‘Where the f**k is the toilet paper?!’ or whatever. I think it’s a very hard forum to be genuine, and I think it does a disservice to people to not be,” Faris, who is now dating cinematographer Michael Barrett, said.

Faris, who has been married twice, reiterated that on social media you don’t post the bad times, which perhaps led to a picture that was not altogether true.

When their break up was announced in August 2017, the fallout was particularly public, with people all over the world tweeting ‘Love is dead’.

“I think we were also guilty… we obviously cultivated something… It was like ‘People seem to think we got all this sh*t right’.” Evidently, there was more to the story.

When Faris saw the commentary following their break up she says, “I had a little bit of a childish feeling of ‘Oh come on, f*cking grow up!” She was angry – though in retrospect, she admits that wasn’t fair.

The image they projected wasn’t a mistake. They liked people believing their relationship was enviable. But, in the end, it made their break up that much harder.

It is believed Faris and Pratt, who were together for over a decade, broke up as a result of religious differences and career commitments.
