What you can do now to prevent your skin ageing in the future.

When I was younger, all I wanted was for people to think I was older than I was. Now that I’m almost 30, all I want is for people to think I am younger than I actually am.
Luckily my routine seems to be working, as I quite often get told I don’t look my age. (And yes, I want to kiss each and every person that tells me this).

But to keep it up, I really have to look to the future. I realised a long time ago that my skin wouldn’t stay young forever (and neither would I) so I have been using anti-ageing and anti-wrinkle products for quite some time already.

Here are the top eight things you should start doing now to stop those wrinkles appearing prematurely.

1. Use proven skincare products.

Olay has been the go-to facial skincare brand in my family for three generations. My Nan used it, then my Mum and now me.

My current favourites in their range are the new Olay Regenerist Miracle Boost Youth Pre-Essence and the award-winning Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream. Together they work to renew my skin cells, give me firmer skin and less visible pores. This is exactly what I want now I am edging closer to that imminent 3-0.

Within a few days of using the Olay Regenerist Miracle Duo my skin felt well hydrated, smooth and supple; and the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream also makes my skin silky-soft.

These creams have come a long way since my Nan was using Olay in her younger years. The new Olay Regenerist Miracle Boost Youth Pre-Essence is the culmination of more than 10 years of research, more than 100 Olay scientists and 50,000 hours of clinical testing with women and it is designed to boost the penetration of those all-important anti-ageing ingredients in your moisturiser.

Olay’s expertise in cellular bioenergetics has allowed them to develop amazing products that are proven to boost cell metabolism and renewal to keep skin looking younger for longer.

My family definitely know to stick with it when they’ve found a good thing.

2. Stay hydrated.

Staying hydrated is probably the next best thing you can do for your skin after a great skincare regime. Drinking at least eight glasses a day will keep blood flowing and toxins out of your body.

3. Get the right amount of sleep.

Easier said than done, sure, but getting the right amount of sleep is SO important to keeping your skin looking young. You are well rested, less stressed and more relaxed – and this shows on your skin.

4. Consider your sleeping position.

Even if you are getting the right amount of sleep, you need to think about how you are sleeping. If you’re sleeping with your face stuffed in a pillow all night you may be causing more damage than you think. The best position to sleep in to reduce wrinkles and maintain good skin is on your back.

5. Wear sunscreen.

It is pretty much common sense and a message you hear regularly but wearing sunscreen is so important to skin care. There are so many amazing Olay products that include SPF such as the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting UV Cream with SPF30. Use them alongside your Olay Regenerist Miracle Boost Youth Pre-Essence and you’re sitting on a winner.

6. Stop smoking.

Being a regular smoker will age you both internally and externally. Chemicals present in tobacco smoke cause decreased blood flow and may give you droopy skin under the eyes and cause crow’s feet and lots of premature wrinkles resulting in a ‘smoker’s face’.

7. Eat well.

Plenty of fruit and veg and less junk. Good for your health, great for your skin.

8. Limit alcohol intake.

Excessive drinking is bad for your skin and your health in general. It can also cause premature wrinkles and make you look way older than you actually are. I know it’ll be hard – but put down the chardy, ploise.
