Acrobat dies in "tragic accident" at music festival.

An acrobat has fallen to his death during a rock music festival in Madrid, event organisers say.

Pedro Aunion Monroy, 42, was hoisted above the stage as part of a tribute to Prince and fell more than 30metres to his death shortly before midnight, The Telegraph reports.

The organisers of the Mad Cool festival expressed their condolences to the acrobat’s family in a statement on Saturday, saying they “regret the terrible accident”.

Spanish national television showed images of what appeared to be the acrobat falling from a box suspended several metres in the air.

The act was a prelude the headliner, Green Day, who took the show some 30 minutes after paramedics removed Mr Monroy’s body. The band were initially criticised for performing so soon after the death, however they later released a statement saying they were not aware of Mr Monoy’s death before taking the stage.

The organisers say they decided not to cancel the performance by American rock group Green Day following the accident on Friday night “for security reasons”.

Green Day wrote on Twitter that “we just got off stage at Mad Cool Festival to disturbing news. A very brave artist named Pedro lost his life tonight in a tragic accident.”
