SPOILER ALERT! 5 things we loved about the Offspring finale - and 1 thing we didn't.

Goodbye, Offspring. We loved you so.

SPOILER ALERT – EVERYONE WHO HAS NOT YET WATCHED THE SEASON 5 FINALE OF OFFSPRING. Look away now.

Whether it’s just ta-ta for now, or a forever-farewell (and despite Channel Ten’s avoidance on the matter, we have to say, it kind of felt like the latter), we’re really going to miss the Proudmans and their many muddled dramas.

Which other show is as emotionally satisfying as Offspring? Which other show can swing between tragedy and comedy with such ease? Which other show celebrates unconventional families with such joy? And which other show has consistently provided employment opportunities for incredibly attractive men?

And tonight, yes, we shed a little tear as we finished up Season 5. But it was kind of a perfect send-off, and here’s why.

1. Ovary-tweaking babies.

In lots of TV dramas, when the central character has a child, that child is always asleep upstairs. Babies are messy on TV, and don't contribute to snappy dialogue. But we love how Nina's become a mum, and how Asher Keddie has played her. Tonight, the beautiful Zoe stole the show. Clapping and singing and going all doe-eyed over both her brilliant auntie and her dead dad, we're going to miss the cutest kid on TV. And yes, her wardrobe. And as for all those newborns. Swoon.

2. Billie. Just Billie.

Offspring may have started out being about Nina, but it's Billie (Kat Stewart) who's been the pounding heart of the last two seasons. We were so torn about whether she should get on that plane tonight, but we knew deep-down that she couldn't leave Nina in her hour of need. When she fired the nanny and announced she'd finally figured out that Zoe was her anchor... Well. Mick (Eddie Perfect) might be the love of her life, but really, her family is her centre. And that makes us mushy.

3. Phillip, Geraldine and Darcy's "threesome".

She's a controversial mum, but we HEART Geraldine Proudman (Linda Cropper). Love that a mainstream TV show has an older female character who is so full of passion and mischief and isn't the standard-issue doormat mum. Of course she should have ended up back with Darcy (John Waters), the love of her life. And of course she and Darcy and Phillip (Garry McDonald) should have all ended up in bed together. Even if there were clothes involved.

4. Nina's okay.

Asher Keddie for PM. No? Oh, sorry, we're just getting carried away with our enthusiasm for her pitch-perfect portrayal of this complicated woman who we've grown to love. When she walked into the house tonight, after saying goodbye to Billie, and the house was still and quiet... Perfect. Her and Billie's shrieky row about Thomas? Brilliant. The moment Nina told the cheating slimeball she had been made invincible by grief? Loved it. And of course she wasn't going to be happy doing all those pap smears. You can't be pap smearing with all those dangly pendants and scarves getting everywhere, after all.

5. Patrick's final final farewell.

Look, it's controversial, but we would not have been happy tonight without one last look at Patrick (Matthew Le Nevez). Tears were shed when he appeared in the final scene, those twinkly eyes resting on his lover and his daughter. And Nina's face said it all. I'm glad to see you, but it's time to let you go. Again. Sob.

And one teeny-weeny thing we didn't like:

Look, it's petty, but Leo.

We love you Leo (Patrick Brammall), you're a solid guy, and Nina's heart's in safe hands with you. But tonight, at the end? Just a bit wet. And we're blaming the pink shirt. We're not saying that a manly man can't wear one, but that wardrobe choice undermined you. We'd be complaining... But look, good luck with everything, we're counting on you.

Do you agree? Did you love the Offspring finale? Did you have any feelings about Leo's shirt?
