No child should have to endure this, during their first few days of life.

Note: This is not the baby from the story.

A 15-year-old father from Western Australia has been charged with aggravated grievous bodily harm after he allegedly assaulted his 27-day-old child.

The baby boy now has critical head injuries and is now fighting for his life in a Perth hospital.

According to media reports, the 15-year-old boy allegedly assaulted the baby when the child’s mother momentarily left the Bunbury Regional Hospital room.

When the 16-year-old mother returned, the baby was unresponsive and the father was reportedly attempting to perform CPR. It’s believed the incident occurred on Saturday at around 7:20pm.

According to the West Australian, authorities are now investigating the incident and the baby is now under the care of the Department of Child Protection.

Child Protection Minister Helen Morton said the Department for Child Protection had been extensively involved with the family since the baby’s birth and they had been provided with the “appropriate support and services”.

The 27-day-old boy was supposed to be getting out of hospital for the first time yesterday since his premature birth last month.

The 15-year-old father appeared in court via a video link from Banksia Hill Detention Centre yesterday afternoon. The case has since been adjourned until February 28.

The child’s mother reportedly updated her Facebook account yesterday, writing: “I hope my son is okay… Missing him so much. Just want him in my arms.”

Out thoughts are with the baby boy.
