Would you buy this breastfeeding souvenir?

We're divided in the iVillage office about whether this is a really sweet idea or a little bit weird.

So much debate goes on about breastfeeding and there's so much emotion tied up with it (not to mention angst if you can't do it and pain if you get mastitis!).

Was breastfeeding a special time for you (if you did it)? Would you like to preserve that memory by wearing your breastmilk around your neck for eternity?

Breastmilk jewellery is a thing. Yes, a real thing. In fact it's being called an emerging trend for mothers, with a number of online craft stores advertising made-to-order pieces on Etsy.com.

One of Etsy's listed stores, Mommy Milk Creations uses breast milk samples that are plasticised, moulded into various cutesy shapes and then preserved in resin to create personalised bracelets and pendants (pictured right).

The store's owner Allicia Mogavero, a mother of three, began making the breastmilk pieces back in 2007 following her own breastfeeding experience.

Mogavero told the MailOnline that her work has received an "overwhelming" amount of interest since she listed the store on Etsy about a year ago.

Buyers are instructed to send her two tablespoons of milk in a zip-lock bag, and each piece takes up to 8 weeks to complete. They range in price from $64 to $125US depending on the size and design.

Ready-made jewellery isn't the only breastfeeding keepsake advertised on Etsy. As the Associated Press (AP) reports, breastmilk soap and DIY kits to make lockets containing dehydrated milk are also available to buy.

Although many mothers have embraced the opportunity to capture their lactating memories, others are predictably getting their nipples in a twist and taking offence. The topic has been heatedly debated on parenting blogs, social media and other online forums, with some viewing it as an elitist symbol of a woman's ability to breastfeed.

As Allicia Mogavero told AP, the idea of preserving and wearing a bodily fluid is another major turn-off for some shoppers. WE CANNOT IMAGINE WHY.

"A lot of people are repelled by breast-feeding in general, as crazy as that is. And I think anything having to do with it is probably not anything that they like. It is a body fluid, so maybe that's why people are somewhat against it."

The thought of body fluids, whether they be breast milk or even placenta, being preserved and used as jewellery does seem a little strange.

However, is it any different to keeping a baby's locks of hair taped in a photo album, or ordering copper replicas of their hands to mount in a frame on the wall?

Over to you – would you buy a pendant, charm or bar of soap made with your breast milk? Seriously, would you go there? No judgement.
