Who wants chocolate? We have 200 blocks to give away.

Welcome to a sponsored post from Cadbury where you can win one of 200 blocks of Cadbury Chocolate.  Yes, we said 200 blocks of chocolate.   The only condition is that you need to share it with someone. In real life. Let’s go.  Lana writes:

“I check Twitter in my sleep as I wake up and then I check it a million times during the day (just ask Mia – it can be very annoying in the middle of a meeting when I get completely absorbed by a link I have been sent).  I log onto Facebook at least a couple of times during the day to see if anybody has had a major status change (and that may just be changing from – “going out for dinner” to “having a sleep in”. Actual status changes – like when my friends get married or announce their divorces (more likely at my age) I check my email inbox for.

I try to keep on top of my blog roll to see what is new and fascinating although I fail quite miserably at this.  Maybe it is because I often sidle on over to Tumblr or to My Space just to see what’s happening .  Oh and Linked In – I am there on and off checking to see whether my past life has caught up with me at all. And it hasn’t so I keep going back, just to check.

All these social media outlets have got me through some very boring timeslots.  Like say having to watch the world’s most boring documentary on motor vehicle production with my husband, or even listening to my mother tell me for the 768th time that I don’t call enough and that I should be using Skype not the landline.  (I fear that she will soon work out that the reason I cannot use Skype is because then I will not be able to check my Twitter feed while she talks at me).

I believe, anecdotally of course, that sites like Facebook and Twitter have revolutionsed kid’s sport.  Personally I am much more willing to spend 4 hours “watching” a cricket match if I have an iPhone with me…

But there is a down side to all this social media contact.  And quite a serious one.  It seems that we are losing our ability to connect with the real people around us.  That sound you just heard was my husband emphatically nodding his head and saying “l told you so” (he is not much into social media)

According to a Nielsen 2010 Social Media Report Australians in 2011 spend more time on social media sites1 and work longer full-time hours than many other OECD countries 1.
