The ultimate 'being single sucks' moment.

Being single sucks.

Don’t get me wrong: I like being single most of the time.

But today, I’ve got the flu. Proper, body-aching, chills-multiplying, chesty-cough woman flu. And I’m holed up in bed with a Mt Kosciuszko-sized mountain of tissues, Revenge season 1 (things aren’t all bad), and, you know what?

I could really do with someone stroking my hair, spoon-feeding me chicken soup and lowering me gently into a candlelit-surrounded, Lily of the Valley-scented bubble bath, then mopping my forehead with a facecloth (OK, so some guys would be more likely to mop the floors than my forehead, but a girl on Codral can dream, right?).

I can call up my flatmates and tell them to bring me home a truckload of ibuprofen and some soup, and of course they will because they’re lovely, but sometimes you just want to get your whine on when you’re ill and be unreasonable (‘What, Kleenex Mansize again? What the frick happened to Kleenex Aloe Vera?’; ‘The little bell you bought me to summon you does not have a loud enough ding’), wallowing in puppy-dog-eyed self-pity and knowing they’ll never judge you.

Because I’d be the same if my partner was crook.

I realise this is a very first-world problem, so I’m just going to suck it up and drown my sorrows in cough syrup. Besides, Revenge is sweeter when you watch it alone anyway…

Do you ever have ‘being single sucks’ moments? Or, if you have a partner, do you have moments when you wish you were single?
