pregnancy

7 drinks for when you're pregnant and you actually can't even anymore.

I’d imagine that being pregnant would, at times, be pretty rough.

According to my research, things you cannot do during that nine month period include: drink soft drink, drink caffeinated tea, drink coffee, smoke, take sleeping pills, get a piercing, colour your hair, ride a roller coaster, travel overseas (third trimester), undergo a dental x-ray, eat sushi, fetta or deli meats, hang out with snakes/lizards/iguanas, fake tan and hang out in a hot tub.

To reiterate, for NINE WHOLE MONTHS you can’t touch an iguana.

At the top of that list is, of course, alcohol. And that’s tough. Because how else is a woman meant to cope with not patting an iguana for nine whole months of her life? Huh?

But we don’t make the rules. We just do our best to get around them.

So we have compiled a list of seven fantastically exciting drinks to consume when you’re pregnant. And, no. Water is not included.

Maggie Beer Sparkling Ruby Cabernet – $11.95

This one is directly recommended by our parenting editor, Alys Gagnon. She says that the refreshing and crisp sparkling is absolutely “delicious”. Pour it into a champagne flute, and you won’t even know the difference.

Rose petals and crushed strawberries on the nose are complemented on the palate with green tea characters that finish crisp and dry with a note of citrus and sour cherry flavours.

Edenvale Sparkling Cuvee – $8.99

The de-alcoholised Sparkling Cuvee has less than 0.5% alcohol, which is similar to that of a natural fruit juice. It is made from selected South Australian grapes, so you can totally be a wine snob while pregnant!

Maggie Beer Sparkling Chardonnay – $11.95

If you’re at a party or BBQ and are in the mood for a festive beverage, then look no further. You can even make a spritzer by mixing it wiwth mineral water and serving over ice. Pop a few mint leaves in and you will look like a damn expert.
